“Collector donates to Alabama
Atlanta art collector Paul R. Jones has donated his 1,700-piece art collection to the University of Alabama. Valued at $4.8 million, the collection of 20th-century African-American art is the result of more than 40 years of collecting. The university has formed an advisory board to identify venues for exhibiting the collection. The collection will be displayed in galleries and other venues on the UA campus and will be available to colleges, universities and other academic institutions, as well as museums throughout Alabama.”

FEATURING THE PAINTINGS OF ARZELL THOMPSON

COLORFUL INSPIRATION

Atlanta based painter, Arzell Thompson, has been creating since the age of 5.  He spent his Air Force days as a graphic illustrator and studied under Herb Schreiber. His colorful images of people, places and things use emotion as the focus. He can depict the genius of Duke Ellington, the peaceful rumble of the ocean’s wave and all have an Arzell signature to it. He has a successful imaging business and has sold over 900 paintings and technical illustrations in his career. The month of May is the best time to show the city this gentle soul’s talent.
